What is CTRI?

The Collaborative Tutorial Resources Initiative (CTRI) is an educational initiative focused on building clear, structured, and self-study-friendly textbooks for secondary school students preparing for the SSCE examinations.

CTRI is designed to improve how students access and engage with learning materials by making textbooks more understandable, progressive, and learner-centered.

CTRI is an initiative of Care For Knowledge, a Nigeria-based non-profit organisation focused on improving access to quality educational resources.

Why CTRI Exists

Many students preparing for SSCE struggle with textbooks that:

  • Assume too much prior knowledge
  • Are difficult to follow independently
  • Lack clear step-by-step explanations
  • Are not structured for self-study
  • Are not freely accessible to students

CTRI was created to address these challenges by redesigning textbooks around how students actually learn.

What CTRI is Building

CTRI is currently developing SSCE textbooks in the following subjects:

  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Agricultural Science

Each textbook is being designed to support independent learning through structured explanations and gradual progression of ideas.

Our Approach

CTRI uses a structured development approach that focuses on:

  • Clarity before complexity
  • Step-by-step conceptual progression
  • Student-friendly explanations
  • Continuous improvement through feedback

Our goal is not just to publish textbooks, but to build learning resources that evolve based on student needs.

Our Long-Term Goal

CTRI aims to produce 10 high-quality SSCE textbooks by 2030, starting with core science subjects and expanding over time.
